Dumfries

The Town of Dumfries is located on Route 1, just off Interstate 95, about 31 miles south-west of downtown Washington, DC. At the time of the 2010 United States Census, Dumfries was home to about 5,000 residents spread across 1,500 households. The town spans an area of 1.6 square miles.

Dumfries has its own elected town council, including a mayor and six members. Nearby attractions include the National Museum of the Marine Corps (adjacent to Marine Corps Base Quantico), the Weems-Botts Museum, Leesylvania State Park, and the Prince William Forest National Park which includes 21 miles of bicycle-accessible roads and trails, as well as 37 miles of hiking trails. The Quantico Marine Corp Base is located only minutes away, and the Fort Belvoir Army Post is about a 30 minute drive north-east via I-95 N and US-1 N.
