Lorton

Lorton, VA 22079, is a community spanning 12.5 square miles in Fairfax County. Lorton is approximately 19 miles south-west of downtown Washington, DC, and is home to more than 18,000 residents spread across over 5,000 households at the time of the 2010 United States Census. Housing in Lorton is comprised of a mix of condominiums, townhomes, duplexes, and single-family homes. Local elementary schools include Gunston, Halley, Laurel Hill, Lorton Station, and Silverbrook. The two public secondary schools serving Lorton include Hayfield Secondary School and South County Secondary School.

The public transit facilities available to Lorton residents include routes 171 & 307 of the Fairfax Connector bus service, as well as a VRE station at 8990 Lorton Station Boulevard. This serves VRE's Fredericksburg Line, which runs between Fredericksburg Station and Union Station in Washington DC. Lorton Amtrak Station lies one mile south of the Lorton VRE, and acts as the northern terminal for Amtrak's Auto Train which runs down to Sanford Station in Sanford, Florida.
