Reston

Reston, VA 20191, is a planned community spanning 17.4 square miles in the north-west corner of Fairfax County. Reston is approximately 22 miles north-west of downtown Washington, DC, and is home to more than 25,000 households with a population of over 58,000 residents at the time of the 2010 United States Census.

As a planned community, Reston was designed to enable its residents to be able to live, work, and enjoy a wide range of cultural and recreational activities all within the district itself. Another goal was to enable its citizens to remain within the community for life while going through different cycles of housing needs as they age. Hence, a wide variety of housing options are available in Reston, from condominiums, to townhomes, duplexes, and single family homes.

Reston has many walking trails which are also open to bicycles, including the 45-mile Washington and Old Dominion trail which runs through Reston. The Vernon J. Walker Nature Education Center is the centerpiece of Reston's focus on nature. Offering 72-acres of hardwood forest, the Walker Nature Center is also home to a campfire ring and a picnic pavilion. Four artificial lakes are available in Reston: Lake Anne, Lake Audubon, Lake Newport, and Lake Thoreau. Canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and rowboats can be rented on Lake Anne during the summer.
