October 2025 - Giving Hope to Family Fighting Against All Odds

This October, we were deeply moved by the story of a local family whose journey has been marked by extraordinary strength and struggle. Their younger son, now almost eight years old, was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism at just two and a half. From early childhood, he faced developmental challenges — limited speech, sensory issues, and difficulty eating or communicating his needs. Over the years, he has continued receiving speech, occupational, and physical therapy while attending special education classes in Fairfax County.

Despite their tireless efforts, life has tested this family beyond imagination. The father, once earning about $4,500 to $5,000 a month as a bus driver, now makes closer to $3,500 while working 12-hour days to keep up with rent and bills. The mother, who had been the child’s primary caregiver, battled and survived breast cancer — and suffered two heart attacks, the most recent just six months ago. Their older son also faced cancer in the past, and now the father himself may be confronting serious health concerns.

Through all this, the family has shown remarkable courage and devotion. When we learned that they were seeking hope through a stem cell treatment for their autistic son in Panama — a costly but potentially life-changing opportunity — the Galaxy Fund stepped in with an $11,000 contribution to help make this possible.

For us, this isn’t just a donation — it’s a message of love and unity. It’s a reminder that even in the face of overwhelming hardship, compassion can make miracles happen.

August 2025 - Supporting a Local Family in Need

After the father unexpectedly lost his job, the family — with three young children and a mother who stays home full time — began falling behind on rent and basic living expenses. Despite his best efforts, even after starting to drive for Uber, the financial strain continued to grow. With the threat of eviction looming and little ones to care for, the family’s situation became desperate.

Recognizing their need, the Galaxy Fund stepped in with a $2,000 contribution to help them purchase food, essential supplies, and bridge the gap until the father could get back on his feet. This small act of support helped the family stay stable during a critical time and reminded them that they are not alone — that their community stands beside them.

At RE/MAX Galaxy, our Galaxy Fund continues to shine a light of hope for children facing rare and challenging conditions. In August, we proudly contributed $5,000  to Cure CMD an organization dedicated to advancing research, care, and advocacy for children living with rare neuromuscular disorders.

Cure CMD works tirelessly to accelerate treatments and find cures for congenital muscular dystrophies, while also supporting families with vital resources, community connections, and awareness initiatives. Their mission resonates deeply with our values — building a world where every child, regardless of their health challenges, has the opportunity to live with strength, dignity, and hope.

July 2025 - Helping Neighbors in Crisis: Supporting St. Vincent de Paul, OLA Conference 

At Galaxy Fund, we believe real impact begins in our own community. That’s why we proudly contributed $500 to support the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s OLA Conference—an organization that quietly makes a powerful difference for families in need right here in Woodbridge.

With our support, the OLA Conference was able to provide emergency relief for local individuals facing financial hardships—helping cover essential needs like utilities, medication, and basic groceries. The funds also supported their on-site food pantry, which serves dozens of families every month with dignity and compassion.

One of the families assisted included a single mother of three who recently lost her job and was struggling to keep the heat on during the winter months. Thanks to the OLA Conference and donors like Galaxy Fund, her utility bill was covered just in time, preventing disconnection and giving her some breathing room to find stable employment.

This story—and countless others like it—remind us why we do what we do. Every dollar we give isn’t just charity; it’s a lifeline, a second chance, and a show of solidarity with the people who make up the heart of our community.

May 2025 - Standing with a Family After Tragedy

In May 2025, a tragic car accident on I-81 in Botetourt County, Virginia, claimed the lives of two young brothers—a 22-year-old and his 15-year-old sibling. Their vehicle collided with a parked tractor-trailer on the side of the highway, resulting in a loss that devastated their family and community.

During this time of immense sorrow, Galaxy Fund stepped in to offer support where it was most needed. We provided $5,000 in direct assistance to help the grieving family with funeral expenses and urgent financial needs.

While no amount of money can ease the pain of such a heartbreaking loss, we hoped to lift a small part of the burden, allowing the family to focus on healing without the added weight of financial stress.

Moments like these remind us why our mission matters. At Galaxy Fund, we believe in showing up for our community—not just in times of celebration, but especially in times of need. Because behind every tragedy is a family that deserves compassion, dignity, and care.
