In a survey that asked non-homeowners if they believe owning property is financially affordable now or will be in the future, the nation's younger generations are growing more optimistic.

Gen Z Americans drummed up the most optimism, going from 33% in 2025 to 42% in 2026. Millennials also are more hopeful; their numbers went from 42% to 54% on the optimism scale.

But Gen X and baby boomer buyers have a darker outlook. Their optimism slipped — from 33% to 31% for Gen X and from 16% to 15% for baby boomers.
